MAINTAINING FOCUS


Importance of Focus

When we think of word focus , the immediate image which flashes into mind is of a table – Lamp. In Table Lamp houses a Bulb. A bulb , without the Table Lamp Cap spreads out light in all directions. What does the lamp shed does ? It actually manages the light. It gathers all the light going astray and directs it to the object , say the book. This increases the availability of light for reading.

Similary , it applies to our thoughts too. What happens from Morning to Night , from getting up to retiring, just try to visualize. We get up with a beautiful , fertile mind , with a happy mood in the morning. We plan our daily schedule. We decide to implement certain tasks . Then we take breakfast & leave for work. Slowly , the day starts coming up and pressures start to build up. Phone calls start coming , Wife or husband asks 100questions , Car window not opening, traffic jammed , Boss expecting you to be in time , Rains disturbing the whole schedule , 100s & 1000s of such things come up one by one.

AND …..

I forget what I had decided. I lose the sight of my tasks , intentions , goals. What happens here is :the thoughts start to flow astray , my actions , without direction. I tend to dwell upon certain thoughts which do not contribute to my plan. I completely lose myself in useless action. What to do ?

I just sit quiet , irrespective of whatever situation , for 10-15 minutes , with my cellphone switched off . I close my eyes , close the room door . I avoid making any plans , any decision making , if not wholly , but for these 15 minutes. These 15 minutes , I am nobody’s father , wife , husband. Let me be free ….. , free ….. , free.

Doing this exercise thrice a day , will take up your valuable time ? Not at all. You will come to know , when you do this for a week. The immediate consequence you observe is a tremendous energetic feeling , to take up task in hand.

Again you will be back to your work with a lot of FOCUSSED mind.

About Being Judgemental

Every day , every Hour , Every 5-10 minutes , we come in contact with various people , our own family members , friends , business contacts , friends , relatives , known , unknown , competitors , rivals , in-laws , the list is truly end-less.

What happens when one human being get connected to the other. Let me talk about me – myself. When I meet anybody – I immediately relate his face , his voice , his outlook , appearance to some images stored in my mind-memory. I try to find out which of my experience matches or near matches to his voice / looks , way of talking etc etc. Once I get a best possible match , I label him : This fellow is like this , that , and what happens further is that I DECIDE my actions , I plan my behaviour accordingly.

And this whole thing happens in what time ? In some seconds.

But , there is a bad news . Whatever I have thought about him can be entirely untrue , it can all go against my perceptions. So , what should I do , rather what I do ?- I have first decided to become non judgemental about anybody. How to do this. I do not ask him about his native place , where he belongs , as far as possible I even try not to know his surname , his caste etc. This stops my mind from further enquirying about the data stored in my memory bank & keeps my mind free from decision making.

In a fraction of a second , we make millions of decisions. Let the mind stop from it for some time!

Life Flows !

Truly ! As we are living our day-to-day lives , we are faced with various situations. Every human being has a different reaction to a similar kind of situation. But it's absolutely obvious , isn't it so ?

Since we are Human Beings , it's absolutely okay to be human. To be human , is to have differences in opinion. So , when we are confronted with situations , where the opposite person does not agree to my opinion , don't try to overrule , instead , just accpet in your heart , that it's perfectly alright for him or her to have a difference of opinion.

Life is very fluid. It goes on , and on and on. Rather ...... it flows on & on & on

We can't change the happenings , but if i let myself soak into the situation , better are the chances of me , not to be drawn into my miseries , isn't it ?

What do you imagine ?


Every morning , i get up with a fresh body & fresh mind set to take up new challenges life has set for me. Sometime my morning starts up worrying , sometime it starts with optimism , sometime with lethargy. I always feel -- i am holding something. What is it ? What is it ? It's a thought. How to get rid of it ? Just release the thought. To do this , try deep breathing. Then imagine you are in a place which your mind memorises greatest & happiest moments of your life. Where you have been at ease with the situation. Absolutely comfortable. Say you were on a trip to Kasmir OR Taking Sun Bath at a beach OR enjoying great anniversary with your spouse. Imagine that & let yourself melt into the situation.

After a few minutes of this exercise , you will find - a complete release of negative energy - the worry , the anxiety , the fear , the excitement has gone and ??? you are a free individual , like a ball , a child who knows nothing but dancing here & there. Try this !

Pls Never Skip Exercising !

As an individual , willing to improve my life , i have been listing out daily some things which i want to INCLUDE in my life and some things to EXCLUDE . There were a huge no. of tasks on both of these lists. I wanted to tackle all of them at once! This is how my list used to be :- 1. Get up early 5-30 2. Exercis - 6-30 , 3. Meditation 30 mins , Dieted Breakfast , office jobs , some domestic work , time wit kids , family. The list was enormous. I used to get it for max 1,2,3,4 days. Then used to strat the declining pattern. And the result ? Frustrations of not performing the work & resulting in - Losing Self Esteem. Flow of Negative thoughts : "I am never able to continue anything " OR " I am a good STARTER only" OR " See once again i have lost consistency" . These kind of sentences lower our self esteem.

To overcome i have learnt one simple trick : Dont take them all one day. Take one by one. Target small.Little But be consistent. Keeping our diets proper , also raises the flow of positive emotions. You want to know what to eat & what not to ? Click Here!

Do You Spend time to look -------IN ?

More Often than not , everyone seems to be too busy involved in performing daily required tasks-the tasks demand our decision making from time to time. The decisions may be very simple as to which conveyence should I use , I should go to Hospital or Not , I should call this person or not etc etc.

Every moment the mind is busy taking various deceisions. As we do it for our Body , we give it a rest whn exhausted, we should rest our mind also. This can be done 2-3 times a day for 15 minutes each time. During the same what one has to do ? - Nothing. Surprised ? Yes - Nothing. How to do nothing? From childhood we are told to , taught to do something always. This looks very very funny. Has Saumitra gone mad ?

Try dear. Close your eyes. Cut out yourself from the world for 15 minutes. Switch of the Cell , Off Hook the landline. Nothing will happen - believe me. Now remove the pressure of performance for this time. only for 15 minutes.Forget your roles - No Father, No Manager , No Wife , No Husband ----- just nobody.

Thoughts - what to do to them ?. Let them keep on coming , dont resist. Imagine you are riding a bicycle on a slope. What do you do ? The bicycle goes on - so thoughts , you should not pedal , dont think-dont react. So the mind will be free from decision making for 15 minutes. You will feel very fresh after this resting process , like getting up in Morning.

Have you given your 100 % ?

Right from childhood we are taught to be overprotective about everything. Don't go to the top floor , dont enter the balcony , dont travel in night, bla bla.....

After graduation , get a safe job , get steady rises , get married to a right - (?) girl , see whether she is working . Everywhere overfocussed on ------- NOTHING SHOULD GO WRONG .

In running own enterprise also - deal with safe parties , take payments properly , dont spend on R & D etc etc etc. NOTHING SHOULD GO WRONG.

Quite rightfully so , we should prepare ourselves in direction of NOTHING SHOULD GO WRONG.

But even after that sometimes it may go wrong. What happens to me ? Panics. Stomach ulcers. High heartbeats. Consistent worries. Headaches. What to do ?

First - tell yoursekf : It's perfectly alright if the situation is not okay. It happens.Then accept whatever worst is going to happen - mentally. This will immediately relieve you from great stress. Now give your 100 % to prevent the worst from happening , without looking back & yes ....... FORWARD also. Our whole attention should be completely focussed , we should be fully involved in the work situation demands , worrying is perfectly useless.

GIVE YOUR 100 % HERE. After all whatever happens need not let you curse yourself , no need to drown into- "Something Wrong with Me" type of thoughts.

Life is a game - a test where HE (God) plays the card & looks upto you whether you enjoy the play or be miserable.

Hey ! I kept myself very coooooool today!

Today & yesterday as well , I had decided to maintain my cool , 2-3 days back ,I had lost my temper on some very minute occassions . So stupid of me ! But daily morning , I am reducing my thoughts to my dear diary.

It's done during morning , when after a deep deep sleep , our minds are empty & fully ready to face this world with chin up. I am observing - if we do not let our negative emotions be carried during the whole day with alert mind , we tend to act - as to what best can I do in a problematic situation.

See - any incidence - when it happens - causes something inside us. It may be good feeling Or Bad feeling. The incidence by itself does not matter much , but the reaction we offer to it. See- any damn thing , which is happening in our lives prompts us to do something about it. If whatever we do to it , is right the consequence will be towards a solution OR getting ahead. But if we react emotionally , the consequence may not be towards getting ahead. Simply - let us not react to the situations emotionally.

Instead try to gain some time to react. May be an hour , may be a day or two. But never try to dig answers instantaneously to a fatal challenge. The answers will come automatically from your subconcious , may be when you are playing with your kid , going out for a walk or so on.

How I performed today

I maintained a very nice frame of mind today morning. I had decided to remain very calm & quiet, was not much a success. Morning I meditated , noon , did not. Evening went for a walk.

During a meeting session , got upset with one of my collegues. Lost my temper a little bit

How to achieve composure again ?

I believe only maintaining a beutiful mind frame one can be better & Better , isn't it so ?
